Taking a Stand

Welcome to Sonoma County Features — an independent digital publication dedicated to original, in-depth reporting on the people, places and forces shaping Sonoma County. We deliver clarity, context and independence — no fluff, no press release rewrites.

Our goal is to uncover and share the many dimensions of Sonoma County — from its vibrant food, wine and art scenes to the challenges that affect its long-term health and sustainability. Our coverage spans housing, agriculture, water and climate along with stories that highlight the county’s restaurants, wineries, small businesses and cultural life. We present a complete picture, even when that means examining the less flattering truths.

Our team includes experienced journalists, artisans, business leaders, activists, professionals and creative contributors. As residents and professionals, we have a vested interest in the region’s future and are committed to telling the stories that matter most.

We’re building an in-depth weekly news lineup for Sonoma County that will expand over time. For now, our core editions publish three days a week, each with its own focus and recurring features:

  • Thursday — The Makers: Profiles of the people shaping Sonoma’s taste and culture, from bakers and brewers to farmers and winemakers. Includes occasional word challenges and other interactive features

  • Friday — The Weekender: A guide to events, performances, markets and cultural happenings for the days ahead, plus a night-sky guide for stargazing and celestial events, local volunteer opportunities and a collection of more than a dozen “photos of the day” for your visual enjoyment

  • Saturday — Under the Hood (paid subscribers only): Our exclusive Saturday series combines deep, data-driven analysis with additional insights. Each week features:

    • The Spotlight: A detailed exploration of a timely issue affecting Sonoma County

    • Economic Dashboard: Key metrics tracking local, state and national markets

    • Reader Poll Insights: Highlights and takeaways from recent subscriber polls

    • What We’re Reading: Excerpts from recent articles offering a range of perspectives

    • Visuals That Caught Our Eye: Compelling charts and graphs from the week

Editorial Integrity and Corrections Policy

Sonoma County Features

We believe in accurate, fair, and transparent reporting. That means we don’t just get the story right — we’re also clear about what happens when we make a mistake.

Here’s how we handle post-publication edits:

  • Factual corrections (names, dates, figures, quotes, etc.) are made as soon as verified and noted with a correction notice at the top of the article.

  • Minor edits (grammar, typos, formatting) that don’t affect tone or meaning may be made without a public notice — but we still track them internally.

  • We do not alter stories just because a subject is unhappy with how they’re portrayed. Journalism isn’t PR, and our job is to report — not revise history.

  • All significant edits are reviewed by the editor and documented in our internal change log.

Correction notices will always explain:

  • What changed

  • Why it changed

  • When it changed

Example:

Correction (Aug. 7, 2025): A previous version of this story misstated the year of the event. It occurred in 2019, not 2020. The article has been updated.

If you see something you believe is incorrect, we welcome factual clarifications.
Reach us at sonomacountyfeatures@gmail.com. If it’s an error, we’ll fix it. If it’s a matter of preference or discomfort, we’ll kindly decline.

We take our responsibility seriously — to the facts, to our readers, and to the public record.
